Keep On Movin’ at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (NYU)

I’m very excited to announce that Keep On Movin’ – Rediscovering the Music of Pino Daniele will be presented at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (New York University) on April 28, 2026 at 7:00 PM.

Conceived in 2025, ten years after Daniele’s passing, this project was born from a desire to reflect on his extraordinary artistic legacy and to bring his music into a new sonic space. Few artists have shaped modern Italian music as deeply as Daniele, whose work seamlessly blended Neapolitan tradition with blues, jazz, and world music, creating a language that was both deeply rooted and unmistakably global.

With Keep On Movin’, I approach his repertoire through the lens of a contemporary jazz ensemble, developing new arrangements that highlight the harmonic richness, rhythmic depth, and expressive power of his songs. Rather than attempting to recreate his original sound, the project intentionally moves in a different direction: the guitar (his signature instrument) is not used, and the music is reinterpreted through a female voice, opening new expressive possibilities and perspectives.

The program brings together some of Daniele’s most iconic songs alongside lesser-known gems, offering audiences a chance to rediscover his music with fresh ears.

For this performance, I’ll be joined by an outstanding group of musicians:

Chiara Izzi – vocals
Austin Ford – trumpet
Nick Biello – alto saxophone
Johnathan Lowery – tenor saxophone
David Gibson – trombone
Adam Birnbaum – piano
Nicola Corso – bass
Marcello Cardillo – drums

This concert represents an important step in the life of the project, and I’m particularly honored to present it at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, a place dedicated to fostering cultural dialogue between Italy and the United States—something that resonates deeply with the spirit of Daniele’s music.
